About the Scottish Law Agents Society

Membership of the Scottish Law Agents Society (SLAS) is open to all qualified and trainee solicitors, not necessarily in private practice. Its current membership includes solicitors with local authorities and other Government bodies. Membership also includes solicitors based in other parts of the UK and abroad.

The Society is widely known for its Memorandum Book and the Scottish Law Gazette. The Memorandum Book is a pocket size reference book which is updated and issued every year, whereas the Gazette is issued quarterly.

The Council of the Society meets every month to discuss current topics and to make appropriate recommendations to the Law Society of Scotland, the Scottish Law Commission, Government and other official bodies. The current membership of Council is:

President -Michael Scanlan, Glasgow
Vice-president -Craig Bennet, Dunfermline

The Society depends on the active support of all solicitors and a strong membership is essential, in order to foster and protect the interests of the profession. Any members who may be interested in becoming more involved in the work of the Society would find that this can assist and complement the work of their legal practice and, for example, contribute to their CPD requirements, and all expenses are paid. Please contact the secretary by email at secretary@slas.co.uk .
